Mold Removal Products
Mold removal products available in the market today are categorized as natural, organic or the non-toxic, and bio-degradable. Unfortunately, bleach is not as effective product for black molds and mildews many are made to believe for its incredibly noxious. The basic effective step in the black mold removal is the complete elimination of moisture in your home. However, if your house had already been attacked it is recommended you first eliminate the black mold with the available products and then avoid their return.
Some of the most common mold removal products
The most effective mold removing products in the market include;
- Bleach; this can virtually kill all the domestic molds and their spores while leaving the surface sanitized and protected against future mold colonization. The only drawback with the use of bleach is that it can only be used in non porous surfaces such as the tiles, bathrooms, kitchen counter tops; it does not penetrate the porous surfaces such as wood and dry walls.
- Borax; a white mineral powder, has a pH level of about 9 and has lower toxicity level than other products. Borax is a natural mold eliminator that has several advantageous qualities when used as one of mold removal products such as being a deodorizer, insecticide, herbicide and fungicide when used as solutions. Precautions should be taken to avoid poisoning if ingested.
- Vinegar; this is a mild acid which can kill over 80% of mold all species. And has the advantages of being natural and very excellently safe. It is non-toxic and does not emit dangerous fumes like some of the mold removal products like bleach.
- Ammonia; this has similar qualities as bleach but is harsher and more toxic. Mo matter the level of mold infestation never mix ammonia with bleach or chlorine for they emit very dangerous gases.
- Hydrogen peroxide; when mixed with vinegar it becomes more effective.
- Detergent; this mixed with warm water can effectively clean the molds on non porous surfaces. Detergent does not kill molds but eliminates them through removal
- Baking soda
- Tea tree oil; this are natural mold removal products solution that are very ideal due to having antifungal qualities but is a bit expensive to use.
- Grapefruit seed extract. It has the same qualities with the tea tree oil.
Tips on using the mold removal products
- Use respirators to reduce the inhalation of the dust, the mold spores and the mold removal products being used.
- Wear good clothes should be worn to prevent dermal damage to the skin due to exposure to the mold removal products being used. They should be easily cleaned and removed after removing the molds. Clothing may also include gloves and goggles.
- Evacuate all other person that are not in the mold removal team to avoid infections and accidents
- Plan you work in short schedules to allow resting and breathing
- Transport the moldy materials in sealed plastic bags to avoid spreading
- Remove the outer clothing of the mold removal clothing inside the work area and clean them separately.
- After the process is complete use air purifiers and dehumidifiers to regulate the air and moisture.
